Epoxy Sheets – The Most Essential Companions for Lithium-Ion Batteries
When it comes to lithium-ion batteries, Epoxy sheets, due to their safety, performance, and durability, are indispensable.
Epoxy sheets, which are composed mainly of non-alkali fiberglass cloth and epoxy (or phenolic resin), serve two purposes – insulation and packaging. High temperatures and humidity can play havoc with electrical insulation, but Epoxy sheets are remarkably resistant to both heat and moisture and thus provide a reliable electrical performance. Further, their rugged mechanical properties add to their overall value.
Epoxy Sheets, which are graded as FR-4 (FR indicating “flame retardant”), exhibit impressive tolerance to temperature, enduring up to 250-300°C.
The true potential of Epoxy is realised in the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries. These batteries contain delicate internal components, which once fixed need to be protected by a suitable external layer. Steel and aluminium, despite being highly resilient are not compatible with battery cells. It is here that Epoxy proves its worth. Whilst Epoxy provides the same resilience of steel and aluminium, its insulation properties make it compatible with the battery cells. The battery cells, ensconced in Epoxy can now be transported, stored and used safely and effectively.
As the use lithium-ion batteries expands, the importance of Epoxy will also correspondingly increase. Further, with no viable substitute, Epoxy’s demand is expected to soar in the years to come.
